Magnificent antique soup bowl or ewer on a stand, with two small side handles, made by the Jules Vieillard & Cie manufacture in Bordeaux, Tonkin model. This very pretty piece in fine faience features a rich polychrome decor of Chinese inspiration: characters, pagodas, boats, landscapes, and an ornamental frieze. The details extend to the small side handles. The underside bears the Tonkin model stamp, accompanied by the mentions J. Vieillard & Cie, D. Johnston, and Bordeaux. A comparable piece kept at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Bordeaux is dated around 1850. An antique piece of a rare shape, particularly decorative and interesting for a collection of 19th-century Bordeaux faience. Antique condition with a beautiful patina of time and general faience. Presence of a hairline crack or slight chip at the foot level, as well as small hairlines starting from the rim, visible in the photographs. Traces and scratches from use on the inside. Despite these defects due to its great age, the piece remains stable and retains a very beautiful decorative aspect. Bowl diameter: 15 cm Height: 9.5 cm Foot diameter: 8 cm Weight: 450 g Characteristics • Brand: Terre De Fer
